Thailand, tour : The Rose of the North

Day 1 : Bangkok - Chiang Mai.

Arrival at Bangkok airport. Welcoming by your English speaking guide. In the afternoon, visit of the Palace-Museum Vimanmek, former residence of Rama V and home to the royal carriages. Transfer to Bangkok's railway station. Journey by night train to Chiang Mai. Overnight in sleeping berth.

Day 2 : Chiang Mai (B, L).

Arrival around 10.00 am in Chiang Mai. Welcoming by our local guide and transfer to your hotel, in the heart of the city. Late morning, rickshaw-sightseeing tour (one hour) of the city, with a visit to the central Warorot market and to one of the most ancient temples of the area, the Wat Phra Singh. In the afternoon, excursion to the Doi Suthep mount, with a visit to the Wat Doi Suthep temple, overlooking the city at an altitude of more than 1000 m. Following that, visit of Bo Sang and San Kamphaeng handicrafts villages, well known for decades for their painted umbrellas, decorated fans, teakwood carving, lacquerware, silverware, precious stones etc… Overnight in Chiang Mai.

Day 3 : Chaing Mai - Chiang Dao – Pai (B, L).

Breakfast at your hotel and departure in direction of Pai, small local town located in a valley. From Ankhang, you will travel along an impressive mountain-road between Thailand and Burma , and cross some Chinese-KMT villages (revolutionary refugees of Tchang Kai Chek's army). The mountain-road to Pai is superb, sinuous and bordered by lovely teakwood forests. Arrival, late afternoon, in Pai. Small sightseeing tour and transfer to your resort. Overnight in Pai.

Day 4 : Pai - Mae Hong Song (B, L) .

Breakfast at your hotel. Visit of a local market and departure for Mae Hong Son. Halt in Ban Phang Paek village, inhabited by the largest Lisu community (ethnic Chinese-Tibetan minority). The journey continues with the torch-lit visit of the well known Tham Lod caves, then with a forest halt in Ban Nai Soi, home for the famous proud ‘long-necked' women from the Burmese Padong minority, with their brass ornaments around their necks and limbs. Arrival at your resort in Mae Hong Son, along the river Pai. Overnight.

Day 5 : Mae Hong Song - Ban Khun Yuam - Mae Sariang (B, L).

Breakfast at your hotel. You cannot miss the visit of the local market, where all ethnic minorities and peasants gather for bartering their products. The journey goes on towards Mae Sariang, small provincial town at the south of Mae Hong Son, following the Burmese border, crossing tiny traditional hamlets and the lovely countryside around Ban Khun Yuam. Halts and visits during the journey. Late afternoon, arrival at Mae Sariang, transfer to your resort and overnight.

Day 6 : Mae Sariang - Tha Song Yang - Mae Ramat - Mae Sot (B, L).

Breakfast at your hotel. Road-journey towards Mae Sot, border town with Myanmar ( Burma ), of which 70 % of the population are ethnic Burmese Môns. The road follows the Salween river along the Burmese border. Several halts on the way to allow you to take pictures of the stunning landscape. Late afternoon, arrival at Mae Sot. Transfer to your resort. Overnight.

Day 7 : Mae Sot - Tak - Sukhothai (B, L).

Breakfast at your hotel. Morning visit to the border market. You will find yourself in another world, full of strange sights, unfamiliar odours, typical sounds of Thailand … Sightseeing walk around. You will leave Mae Sot and head, via Tak, to Sukhothai, the first capital and cultural centre of Siam . Several halts on the way, for snapshots and lunch. Late afternoon and until sunset, visit of the archeological site of Sukhothai, with its main temples Wat Phra Sri Mahatad and Wat Sri Chum. Transfer to your hotel and overnight in Sukhothai.

Day 8 : Sukhothai - Pitsanuloke - Ayuthaya - Bangkok (B).

Breakfast at your hotel. Sightseeing tour of the traditional city-centre of Sukhothai. Departure towards Bangkok . On the way, halt and visit of to the Wat Chai Wattana's and the Wat Sri Samphet's ruins in Ayuttthaya, second capital of Siam, and to the former Summer Palace of the Kings of Siam at Bang Pa In. The journey ends at Bangkok International Airport , where we give you assistance for your departure. Possibility of extension of your staying at a beach destination in Thailand.
