Thailand : Destination Thailand tour

Day 1 : Bangkok. 

Arrival at Bangkok airport. Welcoming by your English speaking guide and transfer to your hotel. Around 01.00 / 01.30 pm departure from your hotel for a first discovery of Bangkok . Trip by longtail boat (Hang Yao) along the canals (khlongs) of Thonburi and Bangkok . Discover the typical life of the former ‘ Venice of the East' (on week-ends, visit of a floating market). Overnight in your hotel.

Day 2 : Bangkok – Mekhala cruise (B, L, D).

After breakfast, departure from your hotel and boarding on the Mekhala-boat for an upwards cruise on the Chao Praya river. Enjoy spectacular views of the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Dawn. Around sunset, the boat will moor at Wat Kai Tia, a Thai temple in a quiet rural village. An exquisite candlelight-dinner will be served on the quay. Overnight on board in an air conditioned berth.

Day 3 : Mekhala cruise – Ayutthaya (B, L, D).

Delicious breakfast on board and departure for Bang Pa In. Your local guide will take you for a visit to the Royal Summer Palace. The excursion goes on with a trip on a fast longtail boat to the ancient capital of Ayutthaya . After lunch in a local restaurant, visit of the legendary ruins of this glorious second capital, destroyed by the Burmese. Late afternoon, transfer by air con minibus to your hotel in Ayutthaya . Dinner and overnight.

Day 4 : Ayutthaya – Lopburi – Phitsanulok – Sukhothai (B, L, D).

After breakfast, departure from your hotel for a visit to this ancient capital of Siam , one of the most impressing sites in Thailand  : the Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, the Wat Phra Mongkol Bophitr, the Wat Sri Samphet. We leave Ayutthaya and head to Lopburi, where we have a visit of the Temple of the Sacred Monkeys. Arrival in Sukhothai late afternoon. Dinner and night at your hotel in Sukhothai.

Day 5 : Sukhothai – Lampang – Chiang Mai (B, L, D).

Departure from your hotel for a visit of Sukhothai, first capital of the ancient kingdom, and of its most important heritage, the Wat Mahathat, the Wat Sra Sri, and the museum. Lunch in Lampang and continuing of the journey to Chiang Mai. Arrival in Chiang Mai, transfer to hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 6 : Chiang Mai (B, L).

Visit of the handicrafts village of Sankamphaeng : painted umbrellas, silk weaving, lacquerware… After lunch, visit of the Northern most revered monastery, the Wat Doi Suthep (ascension of about 290 steps). Late afternoon, free time and overnight in your hotel.  

Day 7 : Chiang Mai (B, L, D).

Departure from your hotel and transfer, by air con vehicle to the elephant camp. You can admire them, touch them, study them and even feed them with bananas. Back to the past, you will be taken in an ox-cart and will discover the rural charms of the countryside. You reach a Karen village and from there, you will take a one hour-ride on an elephant's back through jungle and mountains. Embark on a bamboo raft and enjoy a river descent, with a few rapids alternating with the most delightful and relaxing experience amidst the tropical forest. Pick-nick lunch. Torch-lit visit of the Chiang Dao Cave . Late afternoon, return to your hotel in Chiang Mai. Kantoke show-dinner with dances performed by Northern and hill tribes.  

Day 8 : Chiang Mai – Bangkok (B).

Day at leisure until your transfer to Chiang Mai airport for your return flight to Bangkok , or possibility of extension to a beach destination.
